It is essential that players have a good connection when playing CSGO and CS2, as a difference in ping can result in an advantage for players over others. That is why Valve has created a CS2 console command that allows players to adjust their maximum ping accordingly.

To ensure your connection and ping are fine during a matchmaking game, it is crucial to select servers that are near your geographical area so you can get the best possible connection to the server. The solution to this problem is the mm_dedicated_search_maxping command.

What Is The mm_dedicated_search_maxping Command?

By manually adjusting your maximum ping, you will be able to indirectly select which servers you will play on and prevent yourself from playing on servers far away from your location that will cause lag.

How To Use The mm_dedicated_search_maxping Command?

Using the command is incredibly straightforward. But first, you must have your developer console enabled, as it is required to input the command.

Follow this step-by-step guide to use the mm_dedicated_search_maxping command:

  1. Open your Counter-Strike console by pressing the “~” button on the left side of your keyboard.
  2. Type in the “mm_dedicated_search_maxping” command.
  3. At the end of the command, input a number that will be your maximum preferred ping. For example, if you want your maximum ping to be 30, end the command with 30.
  4. The final step is to press “Enter”.

Let’s say I want my maximum ping on CS2 servers to be 50. Then I would input the command: mm_dedicated_search_maxping 50.

When To Use The mm_dedicated_search_maxping Command?

You either increase or decrease your maximum dedicated search ping. Here is when you should do either option:

When To Decrease Maximum Ping

If you are experiencing lag spikes and high average ping on CS2 servers, you are likely playing on servers far from your location.

If this is the case, it is recommended that you decrease your maximum ping. By decreasing the ping, CS2 will be forced to find servers near you, giving favorable ping connections. For an enjoyable Counter-Strike experience with no lag, players should not play with more than 50 ping.

When To Increase Maximum Ping

So, it is recommended not to set your ping so low that you won’t be able to locate a server at all.

Another situation for increasing your maximum ping is when you are playing with a friend from another region. For this example, let’s say both of you set your maximum pings to 50. If your friend is on another continent, it will be impossible for CS2 to find a server where both of you get less than 50 ping. One player must increase their dedicated max ping to find a suitable server.
