Smoke Grenade in CS2: How It Plays
CS2 replaced CS:GO's sprite-based smokes with volumetric clouds that fill spaces naturally, look identical for every player, and respond to the world: an HE grenade detonating inside a smoke carves a temporary hole in it, and gunfire briefly disturbs the edges. That physicality created a new layer of utility play — clearing a defuse window with an HE, or one-way advantages built from partial fills.
Strategically, nothing in the game is worth more per dollar. A $300 smoke removes an AWP from the round for ~18 seconds, splits a bombsite in half during an execute, or buys a retake the time it needs. Learning three to five lineups per map you play — pit smokes, cross smokes, CT smokes — is the single fastest non-aim improvement available to most players.
