How Big Is the CS2 Skin Market?

What is actually for sale, counted from live listings — and why the number people call a market cap cannot be calculated by anyone outside Valve

TL;DR

Across every marketplace we track, 14,561,236 CS2 skin listings are currently for sale with a combined value of $784 million, priced at each skin's cheapest quote as of November 3, 2026. That is the listed value, and it is a floor, not a market cap — it counts only what is on sale right now, not the far larger number of skins sitting in inventories.

Every few months a figure circulates for the total value of CS2 skins, usually in the billions, usually with no method attached. Those numbers are not necessarily wrong, but they are estimates built on an assumption about how many copies of each skin exist — and that assumption is doing all the work, because Valve has never published drop rates or item counts.

Rather than guess at supply, this page reports the part that is directly observable: what is on sale, and what it is priced at.

The average listing price is the number worth sitting with, and it flatters the market. It is a mean, so a thin tail of knives, gloves and rare patterns pulls it far above what most listings sell for. Underneath is an enormous volume of low-value items. Headlines are written about the tail.

Why this is not a market cap

A market capitalisation is price multiplied by circulating supply. For a listed company both halves are published. For CS2 skins only the first is: prices are public and continuously quoted, while supply is entirely private. Three separate unknowns sit on the supply side, and none can be resolved from outside:

  • How many copies exist. Drop rates are unpublished, so the number of each skin ever created can only be inferred, never counted.
  • How much is unopened. Cases sitting closed in inventories hold skins that have not been created yet, in quantities nobody outside Valve can see.
  • How much never lists. Items in personal inventories, trade-locked, or held long term are invisible to every marketplace feed, including ours.

So the honest ceiling is: the total value of CS2 skins is larger than the listed figure above, by a factor we decline to invent. Anyone quoting a precise market cap is quoting an assumption about supply, and the useful question to ask them is which one.

A better way to track the market's direction

Because the level cannot be pinned down, direction is the more reliable measure, and it does not depend on knowing supply at all. Our fixed-basket indices reprice the same skins on every snapshot, which answers whether prices are actually falling without needing a total. The market dashboard carries the same indices alongside volume and liquidity, and price movers shows which individual skins drove the move.

Frequently asked questions

What is the CS2 skin market cap?

Strictly, nobody knows, and any single figure presented as one is an estimate wearing a fact’s clothing. A market cap is price times circulating supply, and the supply side is invisible: only Valve knows how many copies of each skin exist, how many sit unopened in cases, and how many are in inventories that never list. What can be measured is the value of everything currently for sale, which this page reports.

Why is listed value a floor and not a cap?

Because it counts only items someone has actively put up for sale. The vast majority of skins in existence are sitting in inventories at any moment and are not listed anywhere. The true total value of all CS2 skins is therefore larger than the listed figure — by a multiple nobody can state honestly.

How is the figure calculated?

For every skin in our catalogue we take the number of live listings across the marketplaces we track and multiply it by that skin’s cheapest current quote, then sum the result. Using the cheapest quote makes the total deliberately conservative: every listing priced above the floor is counted at less than it is actually offered for.

Does this include cases, stickers and knives?

Knives and gloves are included, since they are skins in our catalogue. Cases, stickers, charms, patches and other containers are counted separately elsewhere on the site and are not in this total. That exclusion matters: unopened cases represent a large stored value that this number does not attempt to capture.
