How the Case Opening Simulator Works

Every opening is simulated with the same tier odds CS2 applies to real weapon cases, so the distribution of blues, purples, pinks, reds, and golds you see here matches what you'd get spending real keys. StatTrak versions roll at roughly 10% on non-special drops, and each case's contents mirror the real drop pool — check any case page for the full skin list and per-skin odds.

Pull values use live Buff163 market prices, and the sidebar tracks how much you've spent on cases and keys against the market value of everything you pulled. Over a long session the ROI stat shows why opening cases loses money on average — if you want the exact math, see the case odds calculator and our deep dive into the real case-opening math.

Free Case Opening vs Opening Real Cases

A simulated case opener gives you the part of case opening people actually come for — the reel, the rarity reveal, the rare gold — without the bill. Opening a real CS2 case costs the case plus a $2.49 key from Valve. On the Aug 17, 2026 case price snapshot that works out to between $2.63 and $101.49 per opening across the 42 cases we price, with a median of $5.48. A knife or gloves turns up in about 1 in 385 openings on average, so at the median cost that is roughly $2,110 spent per gold, before counting what the gold is worth.

What comes back is less than what goes in. Averaged over every possible drop, the skins from a real opening are worth between 18% (Revolution Case) and 80% (Chroma 3 Case) of what the opening cost, using skin prices from Sep 19, 2026. No case returns what it costs, even on the most generous assumption about the knives we cannot price. 26 of the 42 figures are estimates, because those cases can drop a plain, un-finished knife we hold no price for. The cases page ranks every case by expected return, with the estimates marked. That is the case for opening them here: the same odds and the same drop pools, and the ROI counter shows the loss without you paying it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the CS2 case simulator free?
Yes. Every opening is simulated in your browser at no cost — no account, no deposit, and no limit on how many cases you open. Your session stats (spent, value, profit, ROI) are tracked so you can see how openings play out over time.
Does the simulator use real CS2 case odds?
Yes. Drops follow the same tier odds CS2 uses for every weapon case: 79.92% Mil-Spec, 15.98% Restricted, 3.20% Classified, 0.64% Covert, and 0.26% for a knife or gloves. StatTrak versions appear on roughly 10% of non-special drops.
What are the odds of pulling a knife in CS2?
A Rare Special Item (knife or gloves) drops at 0.26% — about 1 in 385 openings. The simulator uses the same rate, so a long dry streak here is exactly what real openings look like.
Are the skin values in the simulator real prices?
Pull values come from live Buff163 market pricing, refreshed with our skin price data. The profit and ROI stats compare what you spent on cases and keys against the current market value of everything you pulled.
Do I keep the skins I open in the simulator?
No — openings are simulated, so nothing is added to your Steam inventory and no real money is spent. If you want a specific skin, buying it directly on a marketplace is almost always cheaper than opening cases for it.
Can I open old CS:GO cases in the simulator?
Yes. All 42 weapon cases in our database can be opened, from the original CS:GO cases of August 2013 through the Fever Case (March 2025). Each one has its own simulator page with that case preloaded, and the drop odds are the same for every case.
Which CS2 case gives the best return when you open it?
On our Aug 17, 2026 case prices and Sep 19, 2026 skin prices, the Chroma 3 Case returns the most: on average 80% of its $5.48 opening cost comes back as skin value, with every possible drop priced. Even the best case loses money on average. The full ranking of every case is on our cases page.
