How to Bhop in CS2: Commands, Binds & Technique
The practice-server commands, the scroll-wheel bind, and the strafing technique — plus an honest answer on what bhop does in real matches
On a practice server: sv_cheats 1, then sv_autobunnyhopping 1 and sv_enablebunnyhopping 1 with the stamina commands zeroed. Bind jump to scroll wheel (bind mwheelup "+jump"), never touch W in the air, and alternate strafe keys with matching mouse turns. On official servers, stamina caps chained hops — bhop there is about single-hop momentum, not speed.
Bunny hopping survived the jump to Source 2, but let's set expectations: on official CS2 servers, stamina bleeds speed off every landing, so you'll never chain hops into 1.6-style warp speed in a real match. What bhopping does give you is a fast way to carry momentum out of spawn, off ledges, and around corners — plus a genuinely fun skill to master on practice servers where the caps come off.
Here's the setup for both worlds.
CS2 bhop commands for practice
These need your own server — load any map from Practice mode or a private lobby, enable the developer console (Settings → Game), open it with ~, and paste:
sv_cheats 1sv_enablebunnyhopping 1sv_autobunnyhopping 1sv_staminamax 0sv_staminajumpcost 0sv_staminalandcost 0sv_maxvelocity 3500
What each one does:
sv_autobunnyhopping 1— hold jump and the server times every hop perfectly for you. The single best training aid, because it isolates the strafing.sv_enablebunnyhopping 1— removes the speed cap that normally clamps you back toward running speed.- The three
sv_stamina*commands — kill the landing penalty that makes each successive hop slower. sv_maxvelocity 3500— raises the hard speed ceiling so long chains keep accelerating.
All of it sits behind sv_cheats 1, so none of this touches matchmaking. The full convar list with defaults is on our CS2 commands page.
The jump bind that makes bhopping possible
Spacebar is the wrong tool for timing frame-perfect jumps. Bind jump to your scroll wheel instead:
bind mwheelup "+jump"bind mwheeldown "+jump"
One flick of the wheel fires a burst of jump inputs, so one of them lands on the exact frame you touch the ground. Nearly everyone who bhops seriously scrolls; many keep spacebar bound too for normal play. Our bind generatorbuilds the exact lines if you'd rather not hand-write config.
The actual technique
With auto-bhop on, your only job is strafing:
- Never touch W in the air. Forward input actively slows you down mid-jump.
- Alternate strafe keys — A on one hop, D on the next.
- Turn your mouse the same direction as the strafe key, in one smooth arc per hop. Strafe key plus matching mouse movement is what generates speed; either one alone does nothing.
- Widen the arcs as you speed up. The faster you go, the gentler each turn needs to be.
Once chains feel smooth with auto-bhop, turn sv_autobunnyhoppingoff and add the timing: jump the instant you land, ideally with the scroll wheel. That's the full skill. Dedicated bhop community servers (search "bhop" in the community browser) add timers and maps built for it.
Does bhopping work in real matches?
Sort of — and the "sort of" matters. Stamina and the velocity clamp mean a perfect chain on official servers barely beats sprinting. Where legit bhopping earns kills is single-hop momentum: keeping speed off a drop on Overpass, hopping wide around a corner so you're not where the prefire expects, or clearing spawn a beat faster to steal map control. It's a movement tool, not a speedrun. The same air-strafe mechanics also power strafe jumps and jump peeks, which come up constantly — our movement guide covers those, and if ramps sound more fun than hops, surfing trains the identical mechanic for seconds at a time.
And no, scroll-jumping and practicing bhop won't get you banned — binds are just config, and the server commands only exist behind sv_cheats on servers you control.
Frequently Asked Questions
- What is the command for bhop in CS2?
- sv_autobunnyhopping 1 (hold jump to hop automatically) plus sv_enablebunnyhopping 1 (removes the speed clamp). Both require sv_cheats 1, so they only work on servers you control.
- Can you bhop in CS2 matchmaking?
- You can jump repeatedly, but stamina and the velocity cap keep chained hops near running speed. Bhopping in matches is about carrying momentum through one or two hops, not building speed.
- Is binding jump to scroll wheel allowed?
- Yes. bind mwheelup "+jump" and bind mwheeldown "+jump" are plain client binds — legal everywhere, used at every level of play.
- Why do I slow down when I bhop?
- Either you're pressing W mid-air, your mouse turn doesn't match your strafe key, or you're on default settings where stamina punishes each landing. Fix the first two; the third is by design.
