Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get an inspect link in CS2?
Right-click any item — in your inventory, the Steam Market, a trade offer, or someone else's profile — and choose 'Inspect in Game…'. Copy that link instead of clicking it: the URL itself is what you paste into the tool above.
How does inspecting without launching CS2 work?
Since March 2026, CS2 inspect links encode the item's data — float, paint seed, paint index — directly in the link. The tool decodes it right in your browser using CSFloat's open-source serializer; older links that don't self-encode are resolved server-side through the game coordinator.
What do float and paint seed mean?
Float (0 to 1) is the exact wear of your item — lower is cleaner — and decides its wear tier from Factory New to Battle-Scarred. Paint seed (pattern index) controls how the finish is positioned on the weapon, which is everything for pattern skins like Case Hardened or Fade.
Can I check someone else's skin before a trade?
Yes — ask for the item's inspect link (or grab it from the trade window), paste it here, and verify the float and pattern before you commit. For pattern-dependent items, cross-check the seed against our pattern database.
Is this inspect tool safe?
Yes. Decoding happens in your browser and nothing is stored. We never ask you to log in or install anything — an inspect link contains no account information.
