Aspect ratio, exact resolution and stretched-vs-black-bars scaling among active professional CS2 players, computed from publicly published player configs. Try any of these resolutions yourself with the resolution calculator.
Data as of: Published: 2026-09-11
n = 824 active pros with a known resolution (of 1,011 tracked). 136 retired or inactive players and 50 coaches excluded; 1 active player with an unknown resolution.

Key findings
- 78% of active pros play 4:3 (n = 824); 16:9 is 13%. The remaining 9% are on 5:4, 16:10 or another ratio.
- One resolution dominates: 1280x960 at 61% of the field. Native 1920x1080 is 12%.
- Among 4:3 players (n = 644), 90% stretch the image to fill the monitor and 10% keep black bars.
- AWPers are the most 4:3 role: 86% (n = 145) against 76% of riflers (n = 534). Riflers are the likeliest to be on 16:9 (14%).

By role
| Role | n | 4:3 | 16:9 | Other |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Rifler | 534 | 76% | 14% | 10% |
| AWPer | 145 | 86% | 8% | 7% |
| IGL | 145 | 79% | 11% | 10% |
Methodology
- Cohort: players whose source status is not Retired or Inactive, excluding coaches — 825 of 1,011 tracked.
- Players with a known aspect ratio and resolution are included (n = 824). “Unknown” is treated as missing, not as a category.
- Scaling mode (stretched, black bars, native) is reported only within the 4:3 group, where the choice exists.
- Role is the primary bucket (Rifler, AWPer, IGL); buckets below 30 players are suppressed. Shares are rounded to whole percent.

Limitations
- Published configs, not observed play. A resolution listed in a config can lag a change made at an event.
- Scaling mode is recorded by the source with less consistency than resolution; a small number of 4:3 players are listed as “native”.
- “Active” means listed on a live roster; there is no tier field, so no by-tier breakdown.
- Refresh rate and monitor model are outside this study; see pro player settings statistics for hardware.
