CS2 System Requirements
Valve's official minimum spec, verbatim — and the recommended spec that doesn't exist
Counter-Strike 2 needs Windows 10, 4 hardware CPU threads (Intel Core i5 750 or higher), 8 GB RAM, a DirectX 11-compatible GPU with 1 GB or more and Shader Model 5.0 support, and 85 GB of free space. Valve publishes no recommended tier — only this minimum.
The requirements below are copied from Counter-Strike 2's Steam store page — they are Valve's own figures, not a benchmark estimate. That distinction matters more than usual here, because CS2 is one of the few major titles where the publisher never released a recommended specification at all.

Note the CPU line carefully: the requirement is four hardware threads, and the i5 750 is given as an example of a part that clears the bar, not as a floor in itself. A modern dual-core with hyperthreading technically satisfies the thread count.
SteamOS & Linux minimum requirements
Valve lists a separate block for Linux, and it differs from the Windows one in the graphics row:

The Vulkan extension callout is the practically important line. VK_EXT_graphics_pipeline_library is what lets the driver compile shaders incrementally rather than stalling; without it, Linux players tend to hit the shader-compilation stutter described in our CS2 stuttering fix.
There is no official recommended spec
Valve's store page has a minimum column and nothing else — for Windows and for Linux alike. If a site shows you a tidy "CS2 recommended requirements" table with a specific GPU and CPU in it, that table is editorial guesswork presented as a manufacturer figure.
That gap is genuinely awkward, because the minimum spec answers "will it launch?" and almost nobody is asking that. What people want to know is what it takes to hold a frame rate above their monitor's refresh in a smoke-heavy retake, and Valve has never published a number for it. Platforms Valve dropped
In October 2023, shortly after CS2 replaced CS:GO, Valve ended support for three things at once: macOS, DirectX 9, and 32-bit Windows. Valve's stated reason was that those users combined accounted for under one percent of active CS:GO players. Affected players were pointed at a legacy CS:GO build, and support for that build ended on 1 January 2024.
This is why the requirements above list no macOS column at all. CS2 targets 64-bit Windows and Linux only.

Meeting the minimum vs actually playing well
Clearing the spec sheet gets you into a server. Three things tend to decide whether the game feels good after that, and none of them appear in Valve's table:
- Frame pacing, not average FPS. A stable 120 feels better than an average of 200 that collapses during executes. Check frame times rather than the headline number — how to show FPS in CS2 covers the readouts that expose this.
- Storage type. The 85 GB figure says nothing about speed, but shader cache and map loads are disk-bound, and CS2 rebuilds shader caches after driver updates.
- Settings, not silicon. Resolution and the handful of genuinely expensive video options move frame rate far more than the difference between two adjacent GPU tiers.
If you are already installed and the game runs badly, start with CS2 FPS boost rather than a hardware upgrade — most low-FPS reports resolve in settings.

- It meets Valve's stated minimum. Whether it is comfortable depends on what else is running — a browser, Discord and a game capture overlay all compete for the same memory, and CS2 is more demanding than CS:GO was.
