Dust 2

The most iconic map in Counter-Strike history. A clean three-lane layout with long sightlines, fast rotations, and the purest aim duels in the game.

Dust 2: обзор и история

Dust 2 was created by David Johnston and first released in March 2001 for the original Counter-Strike. It went on to become the most recognisable map in the franchise — arguably in all of PC gaming — surviving every engine change with its layout essentially intact. In CS2 it returned to the Active Duty pool in April 2024, replacing Overpass, and it remains in the pool after the July 2026 Season 5 update.

The design is the archetypal three-lane map: Long A on one side, B Tunnels on the other, and a central mid corridor that feeds both sites via Catwalk/Short and CT Mid. There are almost no gimmicks — no verticality tricks, no water, no breakable routes — which is why Dust 2 is the traditional recommendation for learning Counter-Strike fundamentals.

What separates good Dust 2 players is discipline in the big open duels: the mid-doors AWP battle at round start, the Long-doors fight, and crossing open ground only behind smokes. Utility matters, but far less than on Mirage or Inferno — this is the map where raw aim and positioning carry hardest.

Сторона CT (10)

A Site

The A bombsite on its raised platform, reached from Long, Short/Catwalk, and CT spawn.

A Ramp

The ramp rising from A Cross onto the bombsite platform.

A Long

The long corridor from Long Doors to the A site — home of the map's biggest AWP duels.

Pit

The sunken area at the end of A Long by the doors — a strong CT hold and T post-plant position.

CT Spawn

Counter-Terrorist spawn behind A site, feeding rotations through CT Mid and A Ramp.

B Site

The enclosed B bombsite, defended from Car, Closet, Plat, and the Window/Doors area.

B Doors

The double doors between CT Mid and B site — the CT rotation route into B.

Extended A

The lower, CT-facing extension of A site where the bombsite spills toward CT spawn past the default boxes. It is the ground CTs cross walking onto site, and the first part of the site a push up Short Stairs arrives at.

Side

The recess beside Pit at the far end of Long, the ground the community calls Side Pit. It gives a defender a low angle up Long separate from Pit itself, so both have to be cleared before Ts can cross toward the A ramp.

Under A

The strip of low ground beneath the A site platform on the CT spawn side, below Extended A. It sits under the site rather than on it, which makes it a rotation and re-entry route rather than a position either side holds.

Сторона T (8)

Long Doors

The double blue doors between Outside Long and A Long — the flashpoint of every Long fight.

Outside Long

The open area between T spawn and Long Doors where Ts stage before taking Long.

T Spawn

Terrorist spawn, with exits to Outside Long, Suicide/Mid, and T Ramp toward Tunnels.

T Ramp

The ramp from T spawn down toward Outside Tunnels.

Outside Tunnels

The open square between T Ramp and the Upper Tunnels entrance.

Upper Tunnels

The main tunnel from the T side to B site — the choke every B rush must pass.

Lower Tunnels

The lower tunnel connecting Outside Tunnels to mid — the flank route between B and mid.

Tunnel Stairs

The staircase joining Upper and Lower Tunnels behind B. It is the vertical link inside the tunnel system, so it sets the tempo of any B hit coming out of Outside Tunnels.

Контроль mid (5)

A Short (Catwalk)

The elevated walkway from mid up the stairs toward A site — the "short" route to A.

Mid

The central corridor from Top Mid down to Mid Doors, linking T spawn to both sites.

Mid Doors

The double doors halfway down mid — the AWP battleground at round start.

Short Stairs

The staircase at the top of A Short climbing from Catwalk onto the A site level. Every Short take has to pass it, and the climb offers no cover, which is why the route is smoked or held from the site rather than fought head-on.

Top of Mid

The T-side mouth of mid by the Suicide boxes, the same ground the community calls Top Mid. The mid duel starts here, exposed to CT Mid and to anyone holding the Doors.

Сторона CT (25)

A Default

The standard A plant spot on the edge of the raised platform, visible from Long post-plant positions.

Goose

The enclosed corner behind the A platform, named after old goose graffiti — a common CT hiding spot.

Barrels

The barrels behind A site near the mesh fence, beside Goose.

Elevator

The corner of the A platform closest to CT spawn — an off-angle against Short pushes.

A Cross

The open ground between Long and the A site that both teams must cross — usually smoked during hits.

A Car

The car on A Long near the site — cover for Long lurkers and the classic post-plant spot.

Side Pit

The shallow ground between Pit and Long Doors.

Pit Plat

The raised platform beside Pit, giving an elevated angle over Long.

Short Boost

The dumpsters outside CT spawn used to boost toward Short/Catwalk angles.

A Ninja

The hidey-hole behind boxes near A Short used for ninja defuses and sneaky holds.

Close Mid Doors

The near corner just CT-side of Mid Doors, a sneaky close hold against door pushes.

CT Mid

The area between Mid Doors and B Doors leading to CT spawn — the CT half of mid and the B-split route.

B Default

The common B plant spot near the front boxes, coverable from tunnels post-plant.

Close (B)

The left corner immediately out of the tunnel exit — the classic close CT off-angle.

B Car

The car on B site right of the tunnel exit — a standard anchor position.

B Closet

The nook by the car at the site's edge — hides a CT from tunnel peeks.

Fence

The fenced wall section on B site providing a hiding spot toward the back.

B Plat

The raised platform on B site near the plant zone.

Back Plat

The deep end of B Plat — an anchor spot that survives the first wave of a rush.

Big Box

The large box on B site (the "site Xbox") used for cover in retakes and post-plants.

Double Stack

The two stacked boxes mid-site on B — close-quarters cover during site fights.

B Window

The hole in the wall overlooking B site from CT Mid — a key retake and support angle.

B Boxes

The boxes between CT Mid and B Doors that cover CTs rotating in.

Scaffolding

The building materials outside B near Window, climbable for angles into the site.

B Back Site

The rear area of B behind all the boxes — the last space cleared on site takes.

Сторона T (3)

Long Corner

The corner by the first building inside Long Doors — cleared by CTs pushing and Ts exiting alike.

Blue

The blue shipping container opposite Long Doors, used for cover and boosts on the T side.

T Plat

The raised platform beside T spawn overlooking the tunnel approach.

Контроль mid (5)

Stairs

The steps connecting Catwalk to the A Short platform — the choke CTs hold against Short hits.

Top Mid

The T-side end of mid below Suicide, where Ts gather info and set up Catwalk takes.

Suicide

The exposed drop from T spawn into mid — peeking it into a CT AWP is the map's famous coin-flip.

Xbox

The iconic box in mid beside Catwalk — smoked and used as a boost to get Ts onto Short safely.

Palm

The mast (formerly a palm tree) at the top of mid next to Catwalk — a positional reference for mid fights.

Как играть на Dust 2 за T

T-side Dust 2 is about claiming one of the three lanes cheaply and arriving at a site with numbers. The standard default puts two players Long, one or two in Tunnels, and one watching mid — from there, the mid player's information (is the AWP in doors? did short rotate?) usually picks the site.

The Long take is the classic: flash through Long Doors, win or avoid the pit fight, then smoke CT-cross and trade across to the site. Once Long is owned, the A hit is a pincer — Long players cross to site while a short player comes over Catwalk, with a CT smoke isolating the site from spawn rotations.

B hits live and die on the Tunnels choke. A fast B needs a smoke for Window/Door and flashes over the tunnel exit; catching the site before a rotation arrives is the whole game, because retaking Ts in a closed site is easy for CTs coming from Window, Doors, and Tunnels at once. Mid-to-B splits (through lower tunnels after taking mid) are the higher-skill alternative that avoids the choke entirely. Standard smokes and flashes for all three lanes are on our lineups page.

Как играть на Dust 2 за CT

The default CT setup is 2-1-2: two A (one Long, one Short/Goose), one mid (usually the AWP in Doors or on the CT-mid platform), and two B (one Window/Doors area, one on site or in Back Plat). The mid AWP is the tempo-setter — holding the doors gap denies the T mid player info and threatens Suicide peeks at round start.

Long control decides the A side. The Long CT can play aggressive at the doors with a flash for an early pick, or passive at Pit/Corner letting Ts commit before the site pair collapses. Whichever you choose, never lose Long *and* Short at the same time — call early so the mid player can fall to Catwalk.

B anchors on Dust 2 play a patience game: Ts either flood tunnels early or never come at all. Hold off-angles (Car, Closet, Back Plat), use one smoke to cut the tunnel exit when the rush starts, and trust the Window rotation. On retakes, come from Window and Doors together with a flash over the wall — the site's tight geometry makes coordinated retakes very winnable.

Ключевые дуэли и углы

Mid Doors AWP battle

At round start both AWPs can contest the gap between Mid Doors and Top Mid. Ts often smoke doors instantly to deny it; CTs counter with off-timings or by holding the gap from deeper positions near CT Mid.

Long Doors vs Pit/Corner

The first Long fight: Ts flash through the doors, CTs hold from Pit, Corner, or the site edge with an AWP. Winning this duel as CT can shut Long for the whole half; losing it concedes half the map.

Catwalk vs Goose/Short boost

The Short CT plays the stairs-top angle against Ts climbing Catwalk. Xbox smokes and shoulder peeks decide who commits first — a supporting flash from mid flips the fight for Ts.

Tunnel exit vs B site crossfire

Ts exiting Upper Tunnels face Car, Closet, and Plat angles simultaneously. Entry flashes over the exit and instant trades are mandatory; dry-peeking the site one at a time feeds the anchor.

CT-cross (spawn ↔ A site)

The open crossing between CT spawn and A site is watched by Long Ts all round. CTs rotate behind a smoke or take the long way; post-plant Ts hold this line from Pit and Car to lock the site down.

Тактические советы

1

Respect the mid-doors AWP: smoke it or don't cross it.

2

Never take the Long fight without a flash — the doors duel is winner-takes-half-the-map.

3

Use the Xbox smoke to convert mid control into a safe Short presence.

4

As CT, one smoke on the tunnel exit breaks a B rush better than any hero peek.

5

Post-plant A, hold the CT-cross line from Pit and Car instead of sitting on site.

Распространённые стратегии

Атака за T

Long Take → A Hit

Flash through Long Doors, claim Pit and Car, then smoke CT-cross and hit the site with a Catwalk player crossing simultaneously. Post-plant holds from Pit/Car are brutal to retake.

B Tunnels Flood

Five players hit Upper Tunnels with a Window smoke and stacked flashes over the exit. Speed beats the rotation — plant fast and set up on Plat, Car, and back in Tunnels.

Mid-to-B Split

Take mid control, smoke Window and Doors from CT Mid, then squeeze B from Doors and Tunnels at once. The pincer removes the anchor's safe angles.

Double-AWP Mid Lock

Two AWPs hold Suicide and Top Mid at round start to farm the doors duel, converting picks into whichever site is left thin.

Защита за CT

Layered Long Defence

Aggressive doors flash-peek for the opening pick, then reset to Pit and site angles. Forces Ts to re-clear Long in stages every round.

B Off-Angle Rotation

The B pair alternates between Car/Closet close holds and deep Plat positions, with the mid AWP collapsing through Window on first contact.

Dust 2 в профессиональной игре

Dust 2 occupies a strange place in pro play: beloved by fans for its readable duels and highlight potential, but historically one of the less-picked competitive maps because its simplicity limits strategic depth. Pro T-sides lean heavily on mid control and double-AWP setups, and rounds are decided by opening picks more than on any other map in the pool.

When it does get played at top level, watch how teams treat Long: entire halves swing on whether the CT side concedes or contests it. The tracked pro stats above show how the map is currently leaning in CS2 competition.
