How To Play Music Through Mic In CS2

Do you want to become the DJ of your CS:GO matches? If so, we’re going to show you how to play music through mic in CS:GO (CS2), so you can play your favorite track anytime you want.

We will explore three ways of playing music through your mic in CS:GO: Voicemod, Discord and VoiceMeeter, bringing you the exact steps you need to follow to become the DJ of the match.

How to Play Music Through Mic in CS:GO with Voicemod

Since SLAM no longer works, Voicemod has become one of the most popular solutions for playing music through mic in CS:GO and CS2. Here’s how you can use this software to play your favorite tracks in only 5 steps.

1. Download and Install Voicemod

The first step is downloading and installing Voicemod. You can do it by visiting Voicemod.net, and as it’s a light file, you can download it quickly and install it instantly. Once it’s installed, simply execute it and it will automatically connect to your microphone, so you can start playing music right off the bat.

2. Set Up Your Sound Board for CS:GO

Open Voicemod and find the sound boards. You can go ahead and use a pre-made one, or you can build your own one from scratch. You can add up to 8 tracks to your custom soundboard, and the intuitive interface will guide you through the process. Remember, you can only add custom tracks you’ve downloaded, as it’s not possible to add tracks from YouTube Music or Spotify, for example.

3. Select a Key Bind for Your Tracks

The intuitive interface will also show you how to add key binds to the tracks you want to play through your mic. We recommend using keys that won’t interfere with the gameplay experience, such as keypad numbers.

4. Test the Key Binds and Music

First, launch Voicemod and then launch CS:GO. Once you’re in-game, we recommend you to test it with bots first, so you can make sure everything is working correctly. Simply press the microphone key and your preferred track key at the same time and it will start playing through your microphone.

5. Start Playing Music in CS:GO

Now that you’ve tested everything, it’s time to start playing music in CS:GO live. Just remember to press the microphone key + your preferred track key at the same time and it will work instantly.

It’s worth noting you will have to press the corresponding key binds for the tracks you want to play and the mic key at the same time to play music through your microphone. Therefore, this is the ideal solution if you only want to play music for specific periods of time.

Another con of using Voicemod is you need to download the music you want to play, there’s no option for using a player like Spotify or YouTube Music.

Nonetheless, if you want to play music through your phone continuously, this method won’t cut it. Check out how to do it with Discord below, which will allow you to play music through your mic non-stop.

How to Play Music Through Mic in CS:GO with Discord

If you’d like to use Discord to play music through your mic in your matches, here’s how you can do it in 6 steps.

1. Download and Install Discord

The first step is downloading and installing Discord. Once you’ve done it, log into your account and get it ready for the next steps.

2. Set up a Voice Channel

The next step is setting up a voice channel and installing an app like Virtual Audio Cable, because it will allow you to play music through your microphone in your matches. We recommend you to use this combo of Virtual Audio Cable + Discord, as it’s the most reliable nowadays.

You can download Virtual Audio Cable from this page, so you can set up everything to start playing music in CS:GO: https://vac.muzychenko.net/en/download.htm

3. Configure the Software to Play Music through the Microphone

Now it’s time to open Virtual Audio Cable and set a virtual cable as the default playback device in Discord. You can find this option by checking the settings of your Voice Channel and clicking on Soundboard.

4. Set Up Your Preferred Music Player

The next step is opening your preferred music player like Spotify and setting the player output to Virtual Audio Cable. Now all the tracks you play on your favorite player will transmit through the virtual cable.

5. Adjust the Settings

Now it’s time to go to the Discord settings and set the input sound as “physical microphone” and then activate “Listen to this device” to finish the configuration, so you can play music through the virtual cable.

6. Start Playing Music through the Mic in CS:GO (CS2)

Now all you need to do is to launch CS:GO, play your favorite track on your preferred player and then use the microphone and everyone should be able to listen to your music. Just press the microphone key anytime you wish to and you’ll be able to play your favorite tracks without restrictions.

This is our favorite free method for playing music on the microphone in CS:GO, because it’s more practical and you can play your favorite track continuously, as opposed to the Voicemod method that requires you to press the track key and the microphone key at the same time.

How to Play Music Through Mic in CS:GO with VoiceMeeter

If you’d like to use VoiceMeeter for playing your favorite tracks through your mic in CS:GO and CS2, you can do it by using the combo of VoiceMeeter + Discord.

This is similar to using Voicemod, and the unique difference here is you need to download VoiceMeeter, which you can do by visiting the following page: https://vb-audio.com/Voicemeeter/banana.htm

This software, just like Virtual Audio Cable, serves the same purpose of working as a virtual cable that will allow you to play music through your microphone. If you don’t like Virtual Audio Cable for some reason, you can use VoiceMeeter instead.

Just follow the steps from the Discord tutorial and you’ll be able to start playing music through your phone with the help of VoiceMeeter Banana.

Can You Still Use SLAM for Playing Music through the Microphone in CS2?

Although SLAM (Source Live Audio Mixer) was the perfect solution for playing music through your mic in CS:GO, it’s no longer working for CS2. Since the update, this software no longer works because it’s not compatible with the new version of Source Engine the game is using.

As of now, there is no news regarding SLAM being adapted to the new version of Source Engine being used by Counter-Strike 2. Therefore, you will need to use alternative solutions such as Discord, VoiceMeeter and Voicemod.

Are There Alternatives to Discord, Voicemod and VoiceMeeter?

Yes, there are alternatives to Discord, Voicemod and VoiceMeeter, and our favorite one is Soundpad. You can buy it directly from the Steam store, and as you can easily guess, it’s paid software. You can download the Demo but it’s severely limited, so if you want to outbound all the potential of this app, we recommend buying the premium version which is roughly $4 USD.

We recommend this option because it will save you from the hassle using multiple pieces of software, as Soundpad is straightforward. Simply buy it, install it and you’ll be able to start playing music through your mic in CS:GO (CS2) right off the bat.

Is It Possible to Play Music through the Mic in CS:GO without Software?

Although it’s possible, it’s not convenient at all. In theory, you can get an external device for playing music such as a speaker, press the microphone key and the players will be able to listen to your tracks in-game. However, this is impractical and will severely diminish your gameplay experience.

The unique advantage of following this approach is you can play music and talk on the microphone at the same time without restrictions. Nonetheless, the quality of audio will be pretty poor.

We recommend you to stick to the methods we have shared with you on this page, because they are the most reliable and convenient.

Should You Really Play Music Through Mic in CS:GO (CS2)?

It depends. If you’re playing with friends and they’re okay with you being the DJ of the match, go ahead and do it, especially if it’s in Casual and just for fun. This is the golden rule. This is the only scenario where we recommend playing music through your microphone.

On the other hand, if you’re planning on playing or spamming music through mic on MM servers, private servers, or even worse when playing Competitive, it’s almost sure you’re going to get kicked or banned for good. It’s annoying for the rest of the players, and hence most of the time you’ll just get removed from the match.

Especially if you have Prime status, as you’re going to play with other users who bought Prime precisely to reduce their chances of playing with hackers or toxic players, you’re going to get kicked or banned real quick.

We already have too many toxic players in CS:GO, and a big group of them like spamming and blasting music through the mic, completely ruining the gameplay experience for the rest of the players. Don’t be that guy – listen to your favorite music alone and let the rest play in peace.

Conclusion

Now that you know how to play music through mic in CS:GO, use it responsibly. Only do it in private matches online or on LAN with your friends if they’re okay with it, especially if it’s just for fun in Casual or game modes like Deathmatch. But if you’re planning to do it on public servers, don’t do it.
