Being a team game, communication is key to winning a game in Counter-Strike. Though you are able to communicate using the text messaging feature, it is preferred to plug in your microphone and relay information with your voice to make the comms more efficient.
However, many players go through the problem where their microphones aren’t working properly in Counter-Strike, which can lead to frustration and a lack of callouts. If you are facing his issue, let’s try resolving the most common mic not working CS2 problems.
Method 1: Check CS2 Audio Settings
If your microphone is working fine on other applications such as Discord and TeamSpeak, but it isn’t working in Counter-Strike, then the problem will likely have to do with the game itself. The easiest way to try and fix your microphone is to check your CS2 audio settings and make sure everything is in check.
- Launch Counter-Strike 2 and go to your in-game settings page.
- In the different categories of settings, go to the Audio settings.
- Next, look for “Enable Voice” and ensure it is set to “Press To Use Mic”.
- Another thing to check is the “VOIP Volume”. Here, change the setting to any number above 80.
- Additional things you can do is to go to your Keyboard/Mouse settings and then go to “Communication Options”.
- Here, find “Use Mic” and make sure you have a key bound to it for microphone access.
Don’t forget to save your changes by clicking the “Apply” button on the bottom corner of your screen. Once you have tried these steps, start talking into the mic and ask for a response from your teammates to see if it is working properly.
Method 2: Check Steam Microphone Settings
If you have tried changing your Counter-Strike audio settings and are still experiencing issues, we can take a step further and check our Steam settings. Note that this entire method will be performed using the Steam desktop client, not Counter-Strike 2! Try these solutions below
- Close Counter-Strike 2 and open your Steam desktop client.
- On the top-left corner, click on the “Steam” button and then go to “Settings”.
- Navigate to the “Voice” settings section using the left panel.
- Here, make sure you are using the correct microphone for your “Voice Input Device”. You can also start a microphone test to check.
- Next, you can also adjust your voice volume using the sliders provided. Sometimes, the issue might not be the mic not working, but instead, the volume of it being too low to hear.
- Finally, you can also select your preferred “Voice Transmission Type” as you can choose between the three available choices.
Unlike the Counter-Strike client, all changes you make on your Steam settings are automatically saved. So, you can immediately close out the window and launch Counter-Strike 2 to see if the issue is resolved.
Method 3: Check If Your Microphone Is Plugged In Properly
The third method doesn’t really have too many steps, but is an effective fix. Though it could be a little embarrassing, please try checking to see if your microphone is plugged into your computer or laptop properly. This is a very common cause for the mic not working in CS2, so let’s ensure you’re not making a silly mistake.
Some audio jacks could be a little old and buggy, and you might have to twist them around a little bit for them to finally work. Try unplugging it and plugging it back in, and see if the issue still persists.
