Funniest Moments In Counter-Strike History

Counter-Strike has been out for over a decade, so it’s only natural that thousands of precious memories were made throughout the journey. In this article, we’ll celebrate the success of the game’s professional scene and highlight some of the best Counter-Strike Global Offensive funny moments ever.

broky Causes rain To Fall To His Death

Helvijs “broky” Saukants and Håvard “rain” Nygaard are two teammates on the most successful iteration of FaZe Clan. In the PGL Antwerp Major in 2022, a funny incident happened between the two players.

FaZe Clan was up 14-5 against Copenhagen Flames, and rain had just clutched a 1v2 situation from Heaven on Nuke. However, the clutch left rain with a meager 3 HP, and all that was left was to defuse the bomb. Normally, players could drop down from Heaven by landing on a small ramp, taking zero fall damage.

As rain was dropping down to defuse, his teammate, broky, was ecstatic about the clutch, tapping rain on the shoulder a few times to hype him up. However, broky was tapping the rain’s right shoulder, which accidentally moved his mouse away. This accident caused rain to miss the drop and fall to his death, ultimately losing FaZe Clan the round.

The funniest part was that the broadcasting camera had switched from the game to player cams, and nobody, including the casters, realized that rain had died of fall damage. It took a good 15 seconds for everyone to figure it out.

Still, this funny occurrence wasn’t lethal, as FaZe Clan still won the series and eventually became the winners of the Major as well.

Emilio Gets VAC Banned Mid-Game

Joel “emilio” Mako was a former professional Counter-Strike player from Sweden. In 2014, he was playing for Team Property, and was playing an official match against HellRaisers in an online tournament.

The Team Property squad was doing a good job in the match, being up 7-4 on Dust II. However, the casters and fans were in for a surprise when an interesting message was sent in the in-game chat.

To everyone’s surprise, emilio received a VAC ban from Valve, and was forcefully disconnected from the game in the middle of the series. As a result, the match had an odd conclusion.

This incident quickly became a meme in the Counter-Strike scene, as fans would tell emilio to have a nice “VACation” from professional play. Unfortunately, his vacation will be a permanent one.

“Kinguin? They Have A No Chance, My Friend”

The next funny moment is a product of Jarosław “pashaBiceps” Jarząbkowski, one of the most-loved personalities in the Counter-Strike scene.

In 2015, pashaBiceps and Virtus.Pro were one of the best teams in the world. During his live stream, a viewer asked what the Pole thought about his upcoming match against Team Kinguin, a relatively new international stack.

pashaBiceps, with his funny broken English, responded with, “New Kinguin team, my friend? They have a no chance.” When the two teams met on the server, the Kinguin boys demolished Virtus.Pro with a 16-0 score.

s1mple Ninja Defuse

Oleksandr “s1mple” Kostyljev is regarded as the best Counter-Strike player of all time. He displayed a masterclass performance during a match against Complexity Gaming in the BLAST Premier Global Final in 2020.

Na’Vi were on a low buy after going down 3-0 to start Inferno. The North American squad could breach into the B bomb site, taking down two players, and prompting a save call from Na’Vi. Two Na’Vi players were already positioned on the opposite side of the map to bring their guns into the next rounds, but s1mple had other plans.

Instead of running away and saving, s1mple hid behind the sandbags in Church with a Defuse Kit on his back. All five Complexity Gaming members were already running away as the bomb was ticking down, and Benjamin “blameF” Bremer even walked past Church without clearing the angle s1mple was hiding behind.

After hearing all Complexity Gaming players run off, s1mple ran straight to the bomb and stuck the defuse, winning the impossible round for his team in the most abysmal way possible.

NiKo Misses A Deagle Shot, Potentially Costing The Major

Nikola “NiKo” Kovač is widely regarded as one of the best riflers and aimers in the entire professional Counter-Strike scene. Though he holds such a title, he has never won a Major before.

Finally, the time came when NiKo would have a decent chance to win the Major. In the Grand Final match of PGL Stockholm 2021, G2 Esports and NiKo were up 15-12 on Map 2, only one round away from forcing a decider.

In a 2v2 situation to win the map, NiKo climbed up to Heaven with his Desert Eagle to find Oleksandr “s1mple” Kostyljev with his back turned. Despite being the best Deagle player in the world, NiKo somehow whiffed an entire magazine, costing him the round.

The worst part is, Na’Vi would use NiKo’s mistake to take the game into overtime and win the map, which also meant they had also won the Major over G2 and NiKo.

The Infamous G2 Defuse

The squad of G2 Esports had the tall task of playing against prime Astralis at the Starladder Berlin Major in 2019 on Nuke. Though the French roster was down 7-15, they didn’t give up and won the following round with four players alive after Astralis had planted the bomb.

However, for some reason, these professional players could not locate the bomb, and every member alive was simply walking around the map without defusing the bomb.

As a result, the bomb blew up, and Astralis won a 0v4 situation to win the map. Now known as the “G2 Defuse,” this moment had to be one of the most embarrassing incidents in Counter-Strike history.
