Did you know that you can quit a game and stop CS:GO (CS2) right away by simply entering a command in the console? It’s possible thanks to the exit command, and on this page we are going to teach you all about it.

Using it is the ideal way to learn how to game in CSGO instantly. This is why we will bring you all the steps for using it, along with practical examples on how it can be implemented in any game when you want to quit it right away.

What is the exit Command?

If you like to handle it all via the developer console, you will be happy to know that you can also close any CS:GO game at will by simply inputting the exit command. It is like a kill switch that executes automatically upon inputting it in the console, immediately closing the game.

The exit command is available in both CS:GO and CS2. It works in all types of matches and game modes, be it Casual, Competitive, Deathmatch, Arms Race, Demolition, Wingman, Retakes, Danger Zone or Flying Scoutman.

Regardless of the game mode you’re in, you don’t need to make any changes. Whether you’re playing Competitive, Demolition, or any other mode, simply typing exit in the console will close the game immediately.

It was created because a large number of players prefer operating the majority of the mechanics of the game via the console. It cuts down the process of closing the game, as it only takes launching the console by clicking a key, typing in exit and pressing enter.

This command doesn’t require you to activate sv_cheats beforehand, and it works on both the client and server side.

Why Is It the Best Way On How to Leave Game in CSGO?

Because it goes straight to the point. Instead of having to follow multiple steps, you can simply launch the console, type in exit, press enter and you will leave the game immediately. If you like saving time, even on the smallest things, this command will become your new best friend.

Another quick way to do it would be pressing ALT + F4, but unfortunately it won’t work in CSGO. Therefore, the fastest way to accomplish the same result is by typing in the exit command in the console.

Now that you know what this command is, what is its purpose and its limitations, let’s see how you can use it via the console.

How to Use the exit Command?

If you want to use the exit command, here’s what you need to do:

  1. Press the key “~” to launch the console
  2. Type in the command exit
  3. Press enter
  4. The command will execute automatically

Upon typing in exit in the console, the game will close automatically. There won’t be any pop-up or emerging window that will ask you if you really want to close the game. After using it, there’s no way to stop it.

This is why we recommend you to think twice before using it, because there’s no way to stop or undo it. CS:GO (CS2) will close immediately, and all it takes is typing in exit in the console.

Take note that this command will only work when you’re in-game. If you’re in the lobby or any other part, it won’t run.

Evidently, you need to enable the developer console to use this command. In case you haven’t done so yet, here’s how you can do it now:

  1. Launch CS:GO (CS2)
  2. When the main menu screen appears, find and click on the “Settings” icon at the bottom left corner
  3. Navigate to the “Game Settings” tab and click on it as well
  4. Scroll through the options until you find the “Enable Developer Console” setting
  5. Set this option to “Yes”
  6. After making the change, go to the bottom of the screen and click on “Apply” to confirm your settings.

After doing this, simply click the key “~” and follow the previous instructions to execute the exit command and allow it to take effect immediately.

Binding the Command to a Key

Did you know that you can exit any game at will by binding the command to a key? If you want to do this, simply follow these steps:

  1. Press the key “~” to launch the console
  2. Type bind “your-key” “exit”
  3. Press enter
  4. Now you can quit the game at will

You only need to replace “your-key” for your selected key to run the command. For example, if you choose the key “q”, you’d need to input it like this in the console: bind “q” “quit”. Now you can automate this process even more. You can use any key of your choice, and the command will run automatically upon pressing it.

Now that you have seen how to type in the command in the console, how to enable the developer console and how to bind it to your preferred key to make it automatic, let’s check some examples on how to implement it.

Examples on How to Use the exit Command

Because this command doesn’t accept any argument, the only way to use it is by typing in exit in the console and pressing enter. Next, it will take effect immediately, closing the game right away.

Using it in any other form, such as exit 2 or the like, will not work. It’s like pressing ALT + F4, it only serves one function and there’s no other way to use it.
