Can You Play CS2 On Console?

CS2 Can You Play On Console

Looking to see if Counter Strike 2 is available on Xbox consoles? You’re in luck. Valve dropped Counter the new game Strike 2 for PC in September 2023, in a somewhat unexpected update that replaced Counter-Strike: Global Offensive entirely – offering all sorts of new features and gameplay elements.

Considering Valve’s history of releasing games on consoles, the question arises: will they bring this first-person multiplayer shooter to Xbox? Here, we will shed some light on whether Counter Strike 2 will make its way to consoles such as the PS5, Xbox Series X|S and the Game Pass service.

It’s all About the PC Version

Counter-Strike 2 has made its official debut, inviting everyone to download and enjoy the game on PC. With plenty of incredible improvements over its predecessor, the latest Counter-Strike instalment is continuing its legacy as the leading FPS title.

But still, the burning question remains: is CS2 accessible across all platforms, including the PS5 and Xbox Series X – or will it ever be? Here’s the latest information we have.

CS2 on PlayStation 5

As far as we know, CS2 won’t be coming to PS5 or Xbox Series X. Valve has no intentions of porting the game to consoles, as they remain dedicated to the PC platform.

Even though CS2 is ideally played with a mouse and keyboard, there’s still a sizable player base enjoying the game on consoles. Given the recent release of PS5, many players are likely eager to give CS2 a try on their consoles.

For the very best experience, we would always advise using a mouse and keyboard with CS2, considering its development focus on PC players.

CS2 Be on Xbox S|X

Valve also currently has no intentions to bring Counter Strike 2 to either Xbox Series X or Xbox Series S – no Xbox platforms at all.

Historically, the Counter-Strike series has predominantly remained exclusive to PC, with the exception of the original game, which, in 2012, received a port for Xbox and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive being released for both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

The absence of Counter Strike 2 on Xbox shouldn’t really come as a surprise, considering it’s essentially a Steam game that heavily relies on the platform’s features, including the Steam marketplace. Bringing the game to Xbox would require a major partnership between Microsoft and Valve, which would enable Valve to keep full control over game updates and operations on the console platform.

Is CS2 Coming to Xbox Game Pass?

Unfortunately for Counter-Strike fans, there are also no current plans to add CS2 to Xbox Game Pass, PC Game Pass, or Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. As of now, the game is exclusively available on PC through Steam, and it’s highly unlikely that it will be added to the subscription service.

Additionally, CS2 is free-to-play, meaning it doesn’t require a membership to access and play anyway.

So, hopefully that covers everything regarding CS2’s availability on Xbox consoles.

CS2 on Mac: Counter-Strike 2’s availability on macOS

Again, it’s not available at the moment, but Mac players shouldn’t completely dismiss the possibility of the game becoming available on MacOS devices just yet.

Was CS:GO Ever Available on Consoles?

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive first launched way back in 2012. Despite its initial challenges, the game did manage to find its way onto both PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 consoles.

Valve has primarily concentrated on PC gaming. Dota Underlords stands out as the only Valve title in recent memory that is available beyond the PC – being aimed at mobile devices as well… although it didn’t quite reach the expected heights.

The Source 2 engine has only been used on PC platforms, which indicates that CS2 is likely to remain exclusive to PC. Valve’s major triumphs have stemmed from PC gaming and the Steam platform, aligning with the company’s focus on continuing its success in that realm.
