voice_scale Command Help & Examples

If you want to reduce the voice volume for your teammates or other players using the microphone, you need to use the voice_scale command. Whether you’re lowering it by a small percentage or muting it entirely, this flexible command allows you to fine-tune voice volume according to your preferences.

On this page, you are going to learn what the voice_scale command is, how it works, how to input it via console and also check real examples on how it’s implemented in the game.

What is the voice_scale Command?

For example, if you wanted to reduce voice volume by 25%, you’d need to use “0.75” as the argument, which would result in the following version of the command: voice_scale 0.75.

Keep in mind that you can only use this command to lower voice volume or revert it to the default level. For instance, attempting to input “2” as the command argument to make the voice volume twice as loud won’t have the desired effect.

If you’ve previously lowered the voice volume using this command, you can technically “increase” it by entering a higher value afterward. For instance, if you initially set voice_scale to 0.50 and find it too low, adjusting it to 0.80 would effectively raise the volume within that context.

You can execute this command directly without activating sv_cheats beforehand, because it’s not a cheat-protected command. It will execute automatically and adjust the voice volume accordingly.

Now that you know what the voice_scale command is and how it works, let’s check how you can input it via console to fine tune the settings of voice volume.

How to Use the voice_scale Command

Here is how you can input the voice_scale command via console to set the volume for voice communications in the game:

  • Press the “~” key to launch the console
  • Decide what value you will use as the argument for the command
  • Input voice_scale “X”
  • Press Enter
  • The game will adjust the voice volume automatically

All you need to do is to replace “X” for your selected value for the command. For example, if you want to reduce the volume for voice communications by 20%, you need to input the command like this: voice_scale 0.80. Just press Enter and it will work automatically.

Another way to use this command, let’s suppose you want to mute everyone in the game as they are too loud or toxic, you’d need to assign “0” as the argument for the command, resulting in the following variation: voice_scale 0.

If you would like to explore more ways by which you can use this command, below you will find all the information you need.

Examples on How to Use voice_scale Command

Here you have a list of examples on how you can use the voice_scale command, so you can start implementing it in the game.

Reduce Voice Volume by 5%

If you want to reduce voice volume by 5%, you need to multiply the default value of the command by 0.95, resulting in the following: voice_scale 0.95. Just input this via console, press Enter and it will work automatically, adjusting the voice volume as per your requirements.

Reduce Voice Volume by 10%

If you want to reduce voice volume by a subtle margin, you can go ahead and reduce it by 10%. Therefore, you need to multiply the default value by 0.90, which will result in the following: voice_scale 0.90. Enter it, press Enter and it will work instantly.

Reduce Voice Volume by 15%

If reducing voice volume by 10% is not enough, but you don’t want to indulge into reducing it drastically, you can go ahead with -15%. All you need to do is to multiply the default value by 0.85, resulting in the following variation of the command: voice_scale 0.85. Input it via console, press Enter and it will adjust the voice volume accordingly.

Reduce Voice Volume by 20%

If you are playing with loud teammates, and you want to reduce their voice volume noticeably, go ahead and do it by 20%. All you need to do is to enter the command like this via console: voice_scale 0.80. Automatically, it will reduce the voice volume for everyone in the match.

Reduce Voice Volume by 25%

If reducing voice volume by 20% is not enough, but you don’t want to venture into using much higher values for the command, go ahead and reduce it by 25%. All you need to do is to input the command like this: voice_scale 0.75.

Reduce Voice Volume by 50%

If everyone using the microphone in the match is way too loud, especially if there are toxic players, you need to take drastic actions, and hence you should go ahead and reduce voice volume by 50%. Simply input the command like this, press enter and it will work instantly: voice_scale 0.50.

Reduce Voice Volume by 60%

For very loud players getting on your nerves and diminishing the quality of the gameplay experience, you can go ahead and reduce the voice volume by an even larger margin, this time 60%. Go ahead and input the command like this via console: voice_scale 0.40.

Reduce Voice Volume by 75%

If you want to drastically reduce voice volume for your teammates or anyone else using the microphone in the match, you can try reducing it by 75%. All you need to do is to multiply the default value of the command by 0.25, which will result in the following: voice_scale 0.25.

Reduce Voice Volume by 90%

If you want to barely hear other players talking on the microphone in the match, you can reduce it to very low levels such as -90%. All you need to do is to input the command like this via console and it will work instantly: voice_scale 0.10.

Reduce Voice Volume by 99%

This is practically muting everyone in the match, and if you want to go ahead with this setting, you only need to input the command like this console: voice_scale 0.01. Press Enter and it will automatically reduce voice volume by 99% for everyone using the microphone in the game.

Reduce Voice Volume by 100% (Mute)

If you want to mute everyone in the match, all you need to do is to input the command like this via console: voice_enable 0. Press Enter and it will execute automatically. It doesn’t matter how loud they yell on the microphone now, because none will be able to hear them.

Restore Voice Volume to Default

If you want to hear everyone normally again, you need to reset the command back to default, and all you need to do is to enter it like this via console: voice_enable 1. Upon pressing Enter, it will work automatically.

Raise Voice Volume By More than 100%

Unfortunately, it’s not possible to increase the voice volume by more than 100%, as the limit for this command is the default value of “1”. Therefore, using any of the following variations won’t work as the command hasn’t been designed for this purpose:

  • voice_enable 1.10
  • voice_enable 1.20
  • voice_enable 1.50
  • voice_enable 1.80
  • voice_enable 2.00
  • voice_enable 3.50
  • voice_enable 5.50

As we have previously mentioned, you can only use it to reduce the voice volume and restore it back to default.
