How To Transfer CS:GO Config To CS2

Transfer CSGO Config To CS2

With Counter-Strike 2 being the new game, it’s only normal that everyone wants to jump in on the hype. Most advanced players from Global Offensive have utilized their own custom CSGO configs, whether it would be to help with their in-game settings and customizations, or having a full list of practice commands to load in private servers.

However, they must first transfer their CSGO config to the new game for it to have any function at all. In this guide, we will teach you everything you need to know about the CSGO config and how you can transfer it to CS2.

What Is A CS2 Config?

The config file in Counter-Strike in general is a text document that consists of a handful of console commands that you can edit to your liking. This file is then stored in the appropriate game file, and will be automatically executed at will when you are in the game.

Most players use these configs to tweak their in-game settings, or have a long list of commands they can use in their practice or 1v1 sessions. Overall, it makes repetitive actions in Counter-Strike much easier, increasing the quality of life for Counter-Strike players.

How To Create A CS2 Config?

Creating a config for CS2 is pretty easy. You are just going to create a new text document on Notepad, where you will begin typing in all sorts of commands to your liking. Again, there are different functions for config files, so you can do whatever you would like with them with full freedom. Here is how the regular process of creating a CS2 config would go.

  1. Create a text document, either using the Notepad or Text Document application on Windows.
  2. Start putting your desired console commands, usually grouped with the same purpose. For example, if you want a 1v1 config, this text document should be filled with 1v1 commands.
  3. Next, save the file with “.cfg” at the end. For this example, let’s use the name “1v1config.cfg”. This is very important, as it will change the file to the appropriate type.
  4. Now, place this config into the correct CS2 directory, which is under the “cfg” folder in your game files.
  5. Launch the game and execute the config using the “exec [config]” command.

Going back to the example, we would be typing in “exec 1v1config.cfg” to execute the config and have every command in the text document immediately applied to the game.

How To Transfer CSGO Config To CS2

Now, some of you might already have a CSGO config, and want to use the same one for CS2. Fortunately, transferring the config from the previous game to the new one is quite simple. It is much faster than looking for all your commands, creating a new text document, and then moving it into the CS2 file. Here is a step-by-step guide on how you can transfer your CSGO config to CS2 with ease.

Find Your CSGO Config File

First, we are going to locate our CSGO config file, which can be done by digging into Global Offensive’s game files.

  1. We are going to check out the Steam folder, which is saved in “Local Disk (C:)”. So, open your file explorer, and then follow this file path: “Program Files (x86)” -> “Steam” -> “userdata” -> [Your Steam ID] -> “730” -> “local” -> “cfg”.
  2. Now, you should be in your config file. Look for the config you would like to copy, and simply right-click and hit the “Copy” button to have it ready on your clipboard.

Paste Your CSGO Config File To The CS2 Directory

Next, we are going to go to CS2″s game files, so we can move the folder in our clipboard to the new CS2 config folder. Here, you can use your Steam Library to open the correct file.

  1. Open your Steam client and go to the Library section.
  2. Look for Counter-Strike 2, right-click, and go to Properties.
  3. Next, go to “Installed Files” and then hit “Browse”.
  4. Then, follow this file path at the end “Program Files (x86)” -> “Steam” -> “steamapps” -> “common” -> “Counter-Strike Global Offensive” -> “game” -> “csgo” -> “cfg”.
  5. Now that you are in your CS2 cfg file, right-click anywhere in the folder and hit the “Paste” button.

Turn On Your CSGO Config In CS2

Now that you have transferred the file over, the last thing to do is to pretty much activate your new config inside CS2. The steps are very easy.

  1. Open your CS2 developer console by pressing the “~” key.
  2. Next, type in “exec [configname]”.

And that’s pretty much it. Now, you will have your CS2 config enabled, and you can use it any time you want.

My CSGO Config File Doesn’t Work

Some players face the issue that their CSGO config file doesn’t work properly in CS2. Though this is a pretty uncommon issue, it makes sense. If your CSGO config is not working, it is likely because some commands from CSGO were not transferred over to CS2, which will cause the game to read commands that do not exist anymore. The only thing you need to do is to try checking your commands one by one in your CSGO console, and try to check whether the command is available in CS2.

How To Automatically Turn On Your Config Every Time

If you have made a config, it is worth noting that you must always type in the “exec [configname]” command every time you want to use it. However, some players, mostly with settings-related configs, want their configs to immediately be applied whenever they launch the game. You can automatically execute your config every time you turn on the game by tweaking with your game’s launch options. Here is how you can do that.

  1. Open your Steam client and go to the Library section.
  2. Look for Counter-Strike 2, right-click, and go to Properties.
  3. In the “General” section, look for “Launch Options”.
  4. Here, type in the command “+exec [configname]”.
  5. After you have done so, feel free to exit the game as your changes are saved immediately.
