Did you know that you can adjust how much money players get at the beginning of a new half in CS:GO and CS2? It’s possible thanks to the mp_startmoney command, and on this page, we are going to teach you everything about it.

We’ll begin by outlining what the command is and how it functions. Then, we’ll guide you through the process of using it to bring players any desired amount of money at the start of a new half. Finally, we’ll provide real examples demonstrating the implementation of the mp_startmoney command.

What is the mp_startmoney Command?

It is a command that allows you to define how much money players will receive at the beginning of a new half. It’s set at 800 by default, but you can adjust this command to set it to any amount you want, hence it’s one of the most useful commands for tailoring your CS2 (CSGO) matches.

Expanding on the previous point, the default setting of the mp_startmoney command allocates $800 to each player at the commencement of every new half. While this standard sum is typical in most matches, Valve has provided players with the flexibility to customize their gameplay experience. By introducing the mp_startmoney command, users can adjust the starting funds to suit their preferences and match dynamics.

This command is exclusive to the Competitive game mode, as it determines the starting money for all players at the beginning of each new half. This feature is specific to Competitive matches, hence why this command will only work for such matches.

You can only use this command if you are the server host or if you have admin rights. Otherwise, it won’t work. It’s a command that alters the normal settings of the game for everyone, hence it’s reserved for admins only.

This command is also known as the CSGO give command for competitive matches. Nonetheless, it’s also available in CS2, hence we can refer to it as the CS2 give command as well.

It’s worth noting that this command is available in both CS:GO and CS2. However, the maximum money you can assign to players at the beginning of a new half will vary. For CSGO, it’s a maximum of $65,535 and for CS2 it’s $100,000.

Now that you know what this command is, how it works and what are its limitations, below we will guide you step by step on how you can use it.

How to Use the mp_startmoney Command

Now that you know what this command is and how it works, here you have a straightforward tutorial on how to use it:

  1. Press the key “~” to launch the console
  2. Type in the command mp_startmoney #
  3. Press enter
  4. The command will execute instantly

You only need to replace “#” for how much money you want all players to receive at the beginning of a new half. You can use value starting from 0 and the command will execute automatically and without problems.

Let’s suppose you want all players to start with $2,000, it would result in the following command: mp_startmoney 2000. You’d need to type it in, press enter and it will take effect immediately. All players will start with $2,000 at the beginning of a new half, which is 2.5x times more than the default value of the command.

You can play around with this command as much as you wish, just remember that the maximum money will vary in CSGO and CS2, as we previously mentioned. If you go over the aforementioned limits, for example mp_startmoney 80000 for CSGO, or mp_startmoney 200000 for CS2,  players will only get a maximum of $65,535 and $100,000 respectively.

Now that you know how to use the command, let’s check some real examples on how it’s implemented in CSGO and CS2, so you can start using it in your competitive matches.

mp_startmoney Command Examples

Now, let’s check real examples on how you can use this command to define how much money players will receive at the beginning of a new half in a match.

Set mp_startmoney at $0

If you are especially evil and you want to make it much harder for everyone to play at the beginning of a new half, you can try setting the starting money at $0, and you only need to input the command like this: mp_startmoney 0. Use it via the console, press enter and now users will have zero money to spend at the beginning of a new half.

Set mp_startmoney at $50

It’s basically the same as nothing, but if you want to bring players barely $50 at the start of a new half, all you need to do is to use the command like this: mp_startmoney 50. Automatically, all users will get $50 as starting money at the beginning of a new half.

Set mp_startmoney at $100

If it’s your plan to make all players start with $100 on every new half, you would need to use the command like this: mp_startmoney 100. Simply type it in the console, press enter and now all players will only have $100 when starting a new half. This will make the game much harder, because it’s a very limited budget.

Set mp_startmoney at $200

If you want to change the game so that every player starts each new half with just $200, you can do it with this command: mp_startmoney 200. Just type it into the console, press enter, and everyone will start with only $200. This makes the game more challenging because players have less money to work with.

Set mp_startmoney at $400

To modify the game setting where each player begins every new half with only $400, simply enter the command mp_startmoney 300 into the console. After typing it in and pressing enter, all players will commence the half with the adjusted sum. Even though it’s 2x times more than just $200, it’s still very little money, and hence players will have to deal with pistol rounds.

Set mp_startmoney at $600

Now, if you want all the users to get a new half with $600 in their pockets, you only need to use the command like this via the console: mp_startmoney 600. As usual, just hit enter and the command will take effect immediately. It’s an improvement in comparison to the previous examples, but it’s still below the default value of $800, hence it will make the first rounds more challenging.

Set mp_startmoney at $1,000

If you want to bring players more money from the get go, but just by a small margin, you should go ahead and give them $1,000 at the start of each new half. You’d only need to type in the command mp_startmoney 1000, press enter and it will execute automatically. With more money in their hands, now the first rounds will be more fast-paced, as players will be able to escape the pistol rounds much quicker.

Set mp_startmoney at $2,000

If you want players to go to war from the first round, you should consider increasing their starting money at the beginning of a new half, and a good value is $2,000. If you want to apply this change, you only need to use the command mp_startmoney 200 via the console, press enter and now all players will have 2 grands to spend at the start of a new half.

Set mp_startmoney at $4,000

The best way to speed up a competitive game is to bring users more money at the start of a new half, and bringing them $4,000 will make the match a lot more intense from the beginning. If you want to apply this change, you just need to use the command mp_startmoney 4000, press enter and it will execute automatically.

Set mp_startmoney at $8,000

If your plan is to bring users $8,000 at the beginning of a new half, you only need to use the command like this: mp_startmoney 8000. Like always, simply input it in the console, press enter and now all users will have $8,000 to spend at the start of a new half. Now they will be able to buy virtually anything they want from the beginning, making the game a lot more intense and competitive.

Set mp_startmoney at $10,000

To provide players with greater purchasing power at the beginning of each new half with $10,000, simply use the command mp_startmoney 10000. Input this command into the console, then press enter, and all players will receive 10 grand to utilize as they see fit. Anticipate heightened intensity and action right from the outset.

Set mp_startmoney at $16,000

A golden number in the world of CSGO (CS2), and if you want to set the starting money at $16,000, you only need to use the command like this: mp_startmoney 16000. After inputting it in the console and pressing enter, all players will have $16,000 to buy all the weapons they want at the start of a new round.

Set mp_startmoney for maximum money (CSGO)

If you want to bring players as much money as possible in CSGO Competitive at the start of a new half, you need to use this command: mp_startmoney 65535. Press enter, and the command will assign all players $65,535 at the start of a new half. It’s worth noting that using a greater value won’t work, as this limit is hardcore in CSGO.

Set mp_startmoney at $100,000

Take note that this will only work if you’re playing CS2, because as opposed to CSGO that limits the maximum money to $65,535, in CS2 you can assign a maximum of $100,000 to all players at the beginning of a new half. You need to use the command like this: mp_startmoney 100000. Next, press enter and it will execute, bringing all the users 100 grands to spend as they wish. This is virtually infinite money.

Set mp_startmoney back to default

If you want to make all players start with $800, resembling the typical gun round, you need to set back the command to its default value. Hence, it will result in the following command: mp_startmoney 800.
