Essential Dust II Nades
Dust II is one of the most iconic maps in Counter-Strike, and it’d be a crime if you don’t know a grenade lineup or two since you’ll be playing the map very often. The map’s layout is very straightforward, making it easy for players of all skill levels to play. However, knowing a handful of essential grenade lineups can help you dominate your games on Dust II, which is what this article is all about.

Dust II is one of the oldest maps in Counter-Strike history, released in March 2001 as a part of Counter-Strike 1.1. Since then, the map has gone through several changes, revamps, and touchstone updates and still remains as the most popular map in the community.
The Dust II map has been moved in and out of the Active Duty Map pool, but it was reintroduced to the Active Duty Map pool in April 2024, meaning you will see the map in Premier matchmaking and professional play.
Now, let’s talk about 20 essential lineups that will make your experience on Dust II much better and easier.
Dust II Smokes
Smokes are crucial on a map like Dust II, where players on both teams will have to cross through several points of contention such as Mid Doors, A Long, and even the B Doors if you’re playing at a high level. So, here are five essential smoke lineups that will help you elevate your gameplay on Dust II.
1. Xbox Smoke From T Spawn
When looking to get control of Mid as a Terrorist, one area you must smoke off is Xbox, as it blocks vision from Counter-Terrorists playing at CT Mid. Here is how you can throw the Xbox smoke from T Spawn.
Once you spawn, make your way to the wall next to Suicide and line yourself up with the side of the wall.
Next, look forward where you should see a small, dark window pane directly in front of you. Aim at the bottom right area of this window pane, not directly on the corner. Once you’re ready, perform a jump throw with your smoke grenade.
2. A Long Cross Smoke From A Long
A Long is one of the best areas for Terrorist players to control, as they can get a lot of ground. However, the biggest problem is crossing to the bomb site without getting picked off by enemy players from Catwalk or CT Spawn, which is why a cross smoke is essential.
Once you exit out of A Long Doors, make your way next to the blue barrel that is right next to the doorway. Then, bump yourself into the corner created by the barrel.
Now, when you look down on the ground, you will notice a shadow of the light sticking out of the building in front. We’re going to aim our crosshair at the bottom-right corner of this shadow, right at the edge of it.
Then, we are going to prepare to perform a running jump throw. We are going to run until we walk past the shadow of the building right in front of us, and then jump and throw the smoke.
3. Mid To B Smoke From Xbox
Another extremely important smoke grenade in every version of Dust II is the “Mid to B” smoke which covers CT Spawn when you’re looking to hit B from Mid.
Go to the usual corner behind Xbox, right in front of the wooden plank, and make sure you are crouched. Next, look at the fifth wooden pallet from the left, and pay attention to the dot on the right of it.
Aim your crosshair at the second dot, and then move your crosshair to the right until it reaches the end of the pallet. Finally, you’re going to perform a crouch jump throw in that exact position.
4. B Doors Smoke From Upper Tunnels
Let’s move on to the B site, one of the most popular sites to rush down in the entire game. We’re going to learn a smoke lineup that will block off B Doors.
In the Upper Tunnels, look for the random box sitting next to the entrance. When facing the box from the back, you will notice that there is a padlock. Line yourself up with this padlock.
Next, look up to the sky. You will notice that there is a rectangular gap right above you created by wooden planks and the upper walls. Aim your crosshair on the general area of the front-right corner and throw your smoke normally.
5. A Long Doors Smoke From Short Boxes
Finally, we’ll take a look at a Counter-Terrorist smoke. This smoke is used at the start of the round to smoke off A Long Doors, giving time for your teammates to set up.
Once you run out of CT Spawn, look for the boxes to climb up to A Short, and go into the corner next to the furthest box.
Next, face forward where you will see a building. On the highest floor, you will notice a white pipe above the lowest floor. We are going to line up our crosshair with the pipe, and move it down to the top of the previous floor. Finally, we are going to perform a jump throw.
Dust II Molotovs & Incendiaries
The molotov and incendiary grenades always play an important part in how Counter-Strike is played. There are multiple angles players must clear when playing Dust II, so learning some advanced molotovs can make it much easier to play the game and force enemy players into sticky situations.
1. Car Molotov From A Long Doors
When looking to hit A Long as Terrorists, one of the angles you must worry about is Car, as pesky Counter-Terrorist could easily be hiding behind. So, the safest course of action is to throw a molotov without having to expose your body.
Look for the blue barrel next to the A Long Door. Jump on top of it and get in the corner with the wall.
Now, look down where you should see a white door near the edge of the building in front of you. Aim your crosshair at the door handle and perform a running jump throw immediately.
2. A Site Molotov From A Long
This next molotov is used to cover most of the A site area and Elevator. However, you should only throw this smoke if the Long Cross is smoked off. Otherwise, you will be way too exposed.
Once you’re walking through A Long, look to the right side, where you should see a small gate. Line yourself up with the separation of the clean wall and the rugged wall.
Next, look at the general direction of the A site. You will notice a very tall building behind A site. On the roof, there will be a group of antennas. Look for the highest point of the antenna in the middle, and then throw your molotov normally.
3. B Back Plat Retake Incendiary From Outside B
When you have lost the B site as a Counter-Terrorist, you can use this incendiary grenade as a retake grenade to flush out enemies from Back Plat, forcing them to peek into you.
Outside the B Doors, climb up the boxes which you can hide behind, and then get into the corner of the wall.
Next, look towards the right side of the doors, where you should see a small dot on the outskirts of the door. Aim at the dot that would be around headshot level assuming you’re on the ground, and then perform a simple jump throw.
4. B Site Retake Incendiary From Window
Another useful incendiary to retake the B bomb site as a Counter-Terrorist can be thrown from the outside Window area.
Outside of B Window, get into the corner of the rocks leading up to the entrance. This position cannot be seen by Terrorists from inside the site.
Next, turn around and face the wooden scaffolding in the opposite corner. You will notice that the scaffolding is divided into two rectangles. We’re going to focus on the right one. Now, line your crosshair with the shadow below the top plank, and aim around the middle of the right rectangle. Finally, perform a jump throw.
5. A Site Molotov From A Short
This final molotov can pretty much be used by Terrorists to take the site, or Counter-Terrorists to retake the site. This molotov covers the entire A site area and can be thrown from A Short.
On the staircase of A Short, look at the red sign visible behind the A site and next to Goose. Use this sign and move your crosshair vertically upwards to the leaves of the palm tree right above it.
Finally, all you need to do is run and throw your molotov, just make sure you don’t run far enough that it so you do not expose yourself.
Dust II Flashbangs
We must remember that the Dust II map is played in an open area, meaning you can throw several high flashes over walls to blind your enemies. This gives you a lot of flexibility when throwing flashbangs to set up yourself or your teammates, but knowing lineups makes things infinitely easier.
1. A Long Flash From T Spawn
Most people think flashing A Long is very simple. You just throw one high up in the sky as you are exiting. However, there is a more effective way to do it, which is used to set up your teammates for success.
Once you exit out of T Spawn, you will see a little garage on the right side, with a roller shutter door. Line yourself up with the left corner of the building.
Next, you will see a palm tree sticking out. Aim your crosshair at the bottom of the palm tree, and then perform a jump throw. This flashbang will not blind your teammates exiting out of long.
2. Catwalk Flash From Top Mid
The next flashbang will set your teammate up when they are trying to peek into Catwalk. However, make sure the Xbox is smoked off before you throw this flash.
For this flashbang, we are going to be positioned at Top Mid. There will be two barrels out in the open, and we are going to stand a few steps behind these barrels, just in front of the back wall.
Now, we’ll look straight at Catwalk, where you will see a small window on the brown building in front. While crouching, aim at the bottom of the window and throw your flashbang normally.
3. B Site Flash From Upper Tunnels
If you want to implement the classic “Rush B No Stop” strategy, but want to make it a little more polished, you can throw this flashbang to help your team exit out of B. This flash doesn’t require that much precision.
In the Upper Tunnels, go to the right side of the entrance to the site next to the box on the ground. If you look forward, you will see a small window on the building to the left. Aim a little higher from the top-right corner of the window, and then perform a running throw as you are about to bump the wall in front of you.
The best part about this flashbang is it will pop behind a slight wall on the left, meaning your teammates do not have to turn around.
4. A Short Flash From A Default
For this next A Short flash, we are going to be throwing it as a Counter-Terrorist, or a Terrorist in a post-plant situation. We are going to throw a pop flash for our teammate ready to peek A Short.
In the A site, stand around the Default area and go behind the singular box next to the ramp. Get into the corner of the box.
Next, look at the general A Short area. You will notice there are two tall buildings, one colored white and the other colored brown. We are going to look at the top-left corner of the brown building and the top-left corner of the white building. Use these two points to line up your grenade and throw your flashbang normally.
5. A Long Pop Flash From A Long
This final flashbang is used to set yourself up for success as a Counter-Terrorist. This is a pop flash that will help you blind all enemy players exiting out of A Long Doors.
For this flashbang, stand right next to the corner of the building before A Long, but of course, make sure your back isn’t exposed. Now, turn around and see the taller building. Aim at the top-right corner of the building, but move your crosshair a little bit to the left.
Once everything is ready, run and throw your flashbang. This flash will bounce off the wall and pop right in front of pesky Terrorists exiting A Long Doors.
Dust II Grenades
Finally, we’ll also go through some essential HE grenades on Dust II. There are multiple tight choke points on the map that can help you deal grenade damage to multiple enemies, so let’s see what the best HE grenade lineups are.
1. Mid Doors From Xbox
The first HE grenade we’ll show you lands in the Mid Doors area. Instead of dealing damage, we are primarily looking to blow up any potential smokes and catch a Counter-Terrorist off guard.
Stand in the usual corner behind Xbox. Now, look at the top-right corner of Xbox. Finally, all you need to do is throw your grenade normally.
This grenade lands precisely on the gap between the two doors, blowing up any smokes.
2. A Short From Lower Tunnels
When playing as a Terrorist, taking Lower Tunnels is pretty easy, but taking A Short isn’t. This grenade will land right on top of any Counter-Terrorist peeking out from A Short.
Stand in the entrance to Lower Tunnels from the lower Mid position. Line yourself up with the side that is right across the previous Xbox lineup position.
Now, aim at the top-right corner of Xbox. Then, do a jump throw. You will bump the arch, which is intentional as it drifts the grenade to the left side where enemy players will be standing.
3. B Site Corner From CT Mid
One common spot for Terrorists to hide behind during post-plant situations is the cheeky corner below Window. We’re going to punish anyone sitting there with this grenade.
Around the CT Mid area, look for the left wall which is on the same side of the boxes outside the door. Fit yourself into the first corner that is right next to the B site sign.
Look at the ground, where you will notice shadows of buildings. You will also see that the shadow of a light pole is sticking out on the ground. Aim your crosshair at the left side of the right angle created by this shadow. Then, perform a running jump throw. You only need to run a few steps before releasing.
Here is another grenade that will punish Counter-Terrorists on the A Short area, which will be thrown from a safe spot from Mid.
As a Terrorist, walk down Mid and get into the corner you see on the left, around the middle portions of the long Mid ramp.
Next, look at the general direction of A Short, where you will see a lamp. Aim your crosshair on where the lamp is hanging from, and then perform a running throw, releasing it once you no longer see the lamp.
5. Upper Tunnels From B Site
The final grenade we’ll cover is used by Counter-Terrorists to throw a deep grenade into Upper Tunnels, potentially catching Terrorists looking to set up.
On the B site, look for the box with the blue blanket on top of it. Stand on the opposite side of the B Window, and line yourself up with the corner of the box.
Next, look for the arch towards the Tunnels. Aim at the top tip of the arch, and then move your crosshair up until it reaches the dark patch. Finally, perform a running throw, releasing once your crosshair is close to the tip of the arch.
What Are the Best Dust II Nades Executions
Generally, Dust II feels like a free-for-all map, so you don’t need the tidiest grenade executions to hit bomb sites.
For the A site, you are either hitting the site from A Short, A Long, or both. You ideally just want to smoke off the cross sections, which are A Long Cross and smoking off Catwalk if you’re walking up short. The latter smoke doesn’t really require lineups, as you can just right-click and drop them on the ground.
The B site is more straightforward. If you are hitting the site from Tunnels, you want to smoke off the Doors and perhaps Window. If you are coming from Mid, then the Mid to B smoke we covered earlier becomes essential.
The most important part about these executes are the flashbangs, as Dust II’s bomb sites are more open compared to other maps with lots of structures scattered around the bomb site. Of course, using molotovs adds an extra layer of depth to your executions, so they are also highly recommended.
Dust II Nades Summary
In summary, using grenades on Dust II is more important than other maps if you’re a casual player, as grenades are easier to throw since the map is not enclosed like Anubis. Since Dust II is one of the most played maps in competitive mode, you can definitely memorize these lineups to have an easier time on the map and outsmart your opponents.
